The Window Phone – Coolest concept phone yet

We stumbled across this amazing concept phone from designer Seunghan Song. What is it? It’s a window phone… that is, it’s a phone that’s built on a clear piece of perspex… or plastic… or glass… or some kind of new futuristic material. We’re not entirely sure.
Upon first glance, the weather sensing function of the phone reminds us a lot of the Sense UI system on the HTC HD2, but even better. we think this is a very cool idea indeed. The concept of a millimetre thick phone made of clear material that you can write directly on, and the possibilities of perfect AR made possible with the same material make us salivate slightly. Imagine wanting some information about a venue, an item, or even a person by just viewing whatever it is through your phone.
In fact, if you didn’t see Windows Phone UK post it on Twitter last week, the Microsoft 2020 vision features something fairly similar.
However, whether this concept phone ever becomes reality, this is one pretty phone. We like.

Awesome stuff. transparent displays can’t be too far off, and will change the world (one shop window at a time…..
One thing I see in that video is where someone ‘swipes’ the screen from a tablet, onto a wall display. I appreciate that It can’t be that easy now, but so often I have wished I could just wipe my desktop onto the phone, as I walk out the door, and take that session with me. at least in IE, have it send the open tab group to my (docked) windows phone, send an open word document to the phone and carry on reading it as I walk out the door. Imagine one continuous browsing session from home, to bust stop, bus, to work, and beyond. I’m sure this isn’t too hard, and you’re making a big point about doing it for games of Xbox live and windows phone 7….. so surely a ‘send session to mobile’ button is easy ish? I’m happy to wait a minute while the phone reloads the pages through it’s own connection, (while I’m putting my coat on realising I’m late………)

The transparent screen shown in this blog are currently all conceptual. But to answer your question about the ACTUAL Windows Phone that is coming on the market, while no actual dates have been announced, what we are hearing is that they will hit the market in October in Europe, and then in November in North America. No cost information has been announced either, although I would expect them to be priced in line with current top of the line Smart Phones; $199-$299USD on a 2 year plan.
