The soothing sound of texting, R.I.P.

Some people need to listen to strange noises to help them sleep at night. White noise, although I am yet to see noise in any colour, can be in the form of a whale’s song, the ocean or the rainforest. But then there are some whacky people who fall asleep to sounds of an air con unit, a hairdryer or even the sound of a tumble dryer!

So in the spirit of loving a good ol’ sleep, I though I’d check out this white noise malarkey, and give it a go. So what did I nap to?

Texting.

Since I have been texting all my life, well nearly… at least I have very few memories before the mobile phone came into my life, it was only natural it would be so soothing.

Texting has always been a part of my life, from the first person I asked out, to the first time person who dumped me – the modern way to date.

While getting dumped by text may not be a thing of the past, texting largely is, and even more so, the sound is gone. Not only do Windows Phone users email, tweet or facebook each other, a lot, the Windows Phone 7 has an awesome touch screen QWERTY keyboard.

Of course this is great, it’s really easy to use, quick and responsive, but how am I going to get to sleepy-byes from now on?! Count sheep? No thanks… they scare me.

So unfortunately, I am going to say goodbye to the relaxing sound of ‘tap, tap, tap, tappety, tap’ and get some shut eye some other way – audio-books on my Zune maybe?

Bashing my head against a wall?

I’m sure I’ll find some way…

Late Addition: Huzzah! Someone in the team has just pointed out that not all of the new Windows Phone 7 devices rely solely on the touch screen. No, no, my friend, some of these magic phones will have slide out qwerty keyboards as well as the silent touch screen (kind of like this).

I can sleep once more.
