Party on with Windows Phone at this summer’s festivals
Posted June 21, 2011
So the summer sun may not be here just yet, but the festival season is kicking off and that means lots of loud music, wellington boots and partying that would put Wayne and Garth to shame.
It’s pretty essential to pack the right gear when you head of to a festival on some open field for a long weekend. That means tent, sleeping bag, wellies and possibly a few beverages. So why add to the bulk with a camera, map or video recorder?
Ditch the excess luggage this festival season and let Windows Phone lead the way. Schwing.

With so many festivals, so many acts and so many antics going on there are bound to be plenty of moments where you’ll be reaching for your camera to capture the moment. Use Windows Phone’s Pocket-to-Picture-to-Facebook feature to make sure you can get that shot and share it instantly.
Friends and family at home missing out on the fun? Make sure you stay in touch not just with a phone call or text, but go old school and send a postcard. Use the Touchnote app for Windows Phone to turn any festival picture into a postcard sent straight from your phone.

Maps – so last millennia – paper maps at least. Find your way to and from the venue with the maps app for Windows Phone. Better yet, use the feature to keep track of your tent or accommodation, so you don’t get lost if you’ve had a few too many local ciders.
I’m betting there will be quite a few acts you’ve never seen before, and probably some too that you’ve never even heard of. Festivals are a great way of exploring new artists and genres. With Zune Pass you can access their music immediately, at no extra cost. Sign up for a free 14-day trial here.

Friends can end up doing some funny things when they get into the festival spirit. Whether it’s trying desperately to pitch a tent for the first time, mud wrestling in the rain or just pulling some plain crazy dance moves, use your Windows Phone’s video recording to capture some of the epic moments in great quality.
It’s the big one and it begins tomorrow! Don’t bother asking the roadies or guides for any assistance, just make sure you get all the latest news, know which act is playing where and have access to all the need-to-know info with this great app. Glasto Guide is available in the Marketplace now.

Hope you find these tips useful. Let us know if you are heading to a festival this summer – party on!

The only flaw in this guide is that it doesn’t consider the issue of battery life! My phone isn’t going to last three days of a festival if I do all of this, never mind one.

Spare batteries for the HD7 are very cheap on eBay – I’m taking 5 with me to Camp Bestival …
