Phone photography: great for on-the-go, can’t-believe-this-is-happening, where-did-I-put-my-camera-again sort of photos. After all, the technology in mobile phone cameras has developed at an unbelievable pace in the last decade, with some in-built cameras reaching up to 8 megapixels. But what if you wanted to take something a little less citizen journalist…and a little more arty?

Turns out, with one simple trick, you can take amazing macro photos. All you need is your phone and the secret weapon: the magnifying glass of a Swiss Army knife.

With macro photography being all about the close-up, taking those sorts of shots on a mobile phone is usually nigh-on impossible; which is why putting the tiny Swiss Army magnifying glass, or any magnifying glass for that matter, in front of the lens will allow you to focus on your object of choice to get a fantastic-looking close-up.

For our macro photos we used our HTC HD2, A 5x magnifying glass and a rubber band to eliminate the need for extra hands…
